General information only

This is general information, not advice. NDIS rules change, so check ndis.gov.au or talk to the NDIA, your planner or an independent advocate before you decide.

You may hear the terms PACE, my NDIS, and myplace. They are all about how you see and use your plan online. This guide explains them in simple words.

What PACE is

PACE is a new computer system the NDIA has been rolling out. It replaces an older system. It started rolling out in late 2023, and participants have moved over in stages, usually when they get a new plan.

You do not need to do anything to move. Your plan is moved by the NDIA. You can find out which system you are in by checking which portal you can use.

Check ndis.gov.au for the latest on how the roll-out is going. Our sources describe the situation as of their dates.

Two portals

There are two participant portals.

my NDIS portal and app. For participants whose plans are in the new computer system.

myplace portal. For participants whose plans are not yet in the new system.

You can switch between them after you sign in. But you can only claim through one of them.

What you can do in the my NDIS app

The NDIS says the app lets you:

  • see a breakdown of your budget for each support category
  • see your total funds available
  • see claims made against your budget
  • see your plan and personal details
  • make a claim, if you are self-managed
  • change accessibility settings, including face or fingerprint login if your device supports it

The app only works with plans in the new system. It is free to download from Google Play and the Apple App Store, after you sign in to the portal for the first time.

You need a myGov account. If you already have one for Medicare, the ATO or Centrelink, you can use the same one.

  1. Sign in to myGov.
  2. Choose to link a service.
  3. Pick National Disability Insurance Scheme from the list.
  4. Enter your NDIS number, family name and date of birth.
  5. Check the details match your myGov details exactly.
  6. Enter the one-time 6-digit code sent to your mobile by SMS. It expires within 24 hours.
  7. Next time, sign in to myGov and choose the NDIS under your linked services.

If your details were just created or changed, it can take up to an hour to show in myGov.

Things to know

  • Each NDIS portal account can be linked to only one myGov account.
  • Each person must use their own NDIS number and myGov account. Using someone else's, such as a nominee's, causes an error.
  • If you cannot get the SMS code, call the NDIS on 1800 800 110.
  • Never share your logins with a provider or a stranger. See red flags: NDIS scams and inducements.

Nominees and carers

Nominees and carers sometimes need to see or manage a plan. Do not use the participant's login. Ask the NDIA about the right way to set up access. Read NDIS nominee explained.

If you are a carer helping someone at a meeting, see the carer's guide to the NDIS.

If you are plan-managed or self-managed

If you are plan-managed, your plan manager pays providers. The portal shows your budget and claims. If you are self-managed, you make claims for what you have paid. Keep your invoices and receipts. Rules on how quickly you must claim are changing, so check ndis.gov.au.

See self-managed, plan-managed or agency-managed for a comparison.

Staying safe

  • Use a strong password on myGov.
  • Use two-step sign in if offered.
  • Be careful of texts or emails claiming to be from the NDIS or myGov.
  • If you get a message you did not expect, do not click the link. Look up the website yourself.

Tips for getting started

If you are new to the portal, these tips can save time.

  1. Set aside 20 minutes. Do the set-up when you are not rushed.
  2. Have your details ready. You need your NDIS number, your name and your date of birth. They must match your NDIS record.
  3. Check your phone number is current. The one-time code goes to the number the NDIS has on file. If it is wrong, call the NDIS to update it first.
  4. Ask for help. A family member, friend or support worker can sit with you. But you should enter your own codes and keep your own password.
  5. Write down how to get back in. Not your password. Just a note to yourself like "NDIS is under linked services in myGov".

What to do if something looks wrong

If your budget, claims or plan details look wrong, do not guess. Take a screenshot, note the date, and contact your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIS on 1800 800 110. If you see a claim you do not recognise, tell the NDIS right away, as it could be fraud. You can also read red flags: NDIS scams and inducements.

Accessibility

The my NDIS app has accessibility settings. If you use a screen reader, larger text or reduced motion, check your device settings and the app's settings. If you cannot use the portal, ask the NDIS about other ways to get your information, such as phone support.

Frequently asked questions

What is PACE?

PACE is the NDIA's newer computer system. It is replacing the older system. If your plan is in PACE, you use the my NDIS participant portal and app. If not, you use the myplace portal.

How do I know which portal to use?

The NDIS says the my NDIS portal is for participants with plans in the new computer system. If your plan is not in the new system, you use myplace. You can switch between them once signed in, but you can only claim through one.

How do I link the NDIS to myGov?

Create or sign in to myGov, choose to link a service, pick the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and enter your NDIS number, family name and date of birth. Your details must match exactly. You then get a one-time SMS code.

Can my nominee use my login?

No. Each person must use their own NDIS number and myGov account. Using someone else's number, such as a nominee's, causes an error. Ask the NDIS about the right way for a nominee to get access.

Who do I call if I can't get the code?

Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110. The NDIS lists Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm for this help.
